Mubadala Petroleum Hits Oil in Thai Gulf Well, Declares Find Uncommercial

Test results at the Sri Trang-1 well in the Northern Gulf of Thailand confirmed the presence of oil in uncommercial quantities.

The well revealed poor quality reservoir sand and samples collected from three separate zones confirmed the presence of water. Despite the find however, the Sri Trang-1 discovery has “validated the hydrocarbon prospectivity of the Northern Kra Basin,” according to a statement from Tap Oil Limited.

Sri Trang-1 is located in the Reservation Area of the G1/48 concession in the Gulf of Thailand approximately 11 miles north northeast of the Manora oil development. Mubadala Petroleum is the operator of G1/48. The well was spud May 17 in 130 feet of water by the Atwood Orca (400’ ILC) jackup drilling unit.
