Rigzone Polls: Readers Veer Toward Conservative Platform, Support Trump

Rigzone readers tended toward the conservative side of responses in a recent series of political polls related to the oil and gas industry we posted on Twitter during the first week of May.

A common theme among oil and gas exploration and production (E&P) types is over-regulation from the federal government. As such, our Twitter poll revealed at 36 percent strongly agree and 27 percent agree governance of hydraulic fracturing should be handled at the local level.

And keeping with the theme of the government leaving well enough alone in the industry, by and large our respondents didn’t want the sort of government bailout that assisted the auto industry during its downturn in 2009. Almost 60 percent said disagreed or strongly disagreed with that idea.

As for presidential politics in the U.S., Donald Trump would take the prize from Rigzone respondents. He garnered 59 percent, followed by Hillary Clinton’s 24 percent and Bernie Sanders’ 17 percent.

Rigzone readers overwhelmingly – 57 percent of them – strongly agree that upstream technology has a significant role to play in the industry’s recovery. Coupled with the 28 percent who agreed, that’s 85 percent of those polled who believe in upstream innovation.
