The third day of the Offshore Technology Conference 2016: Endless Innovation continued the optimistic tone that characterized much of the week in Houston. Exhibitors were happy to demonstrate their machinery and discuss the ‘hows’ and ‘whys’ of their work.
The innovation theme suited the general tone of the industry, which all players admit is in a slump. The silver lining, however, is that these shale leaders recognize innovation is what allowed the renaissance to happen in North America in the first place. Any downward cycle can be painful, but it’s still a matter of experts going back to the drawing board and finding safer, smarter, cheaper and more efficient ways of extracting fossil fuels from the earth. They’ve done it before and have no doubts they can do it again.
And meanwhile, conference-goers gazed on the fascinating new ideas percolating through the offshore world. Many said it’s an exciting time to pursue the next threshold of deepwater success.
