Roxi Petroleum Resumes Drilling at Deep Well A6

Roxi Petroleum plc, the Central Asian oil and gas company with a focus on Kazakhstan, revealed Monday that it expects to reach a “potentially oil bearing zone” in deep well A6 soon, after resuming drilling operations on the well.

Following a pause to set casing to a depth of 12,227 feet, and the instalation of high pressure blowout preventers, drilling has resumed at deep well A6, which has reached a depth of 12.582 feet. The well was spud in early November 2015 and is scheduled to be drilled to a planned total depth of 16,404 feet.

Based on Roxi’s interpretation of seismic surveys and the experience from its two previous deep wells, the company has stated it expects to reach a potentially oil bearing zone in the well after a further 984 feet.

Roxi also announced that deep well A5 flowed oil at a rate of 2,000 barrels per day for brief periods of up to two hours at a time, before becoming blocked by the accumulation of unrecovered heavy drilling fluids becoming set in the oil pipe. The rig initially identified for testing was used on other activities but is now back on site for a new attempt to clear the blocked well using coil tubing equipment.

Deep well 801, which also suffered from blockages, is set to be opened for testing once extensive chemical cleaning raises the pressure in the well to 300 bar. It is currently on 240 bar.

Roxi Petroleum Chairman Clive Carver said in a company statement:

"We remain pleased with the progress at our shallow wells and continue to work to allow the commencement of testing of the two completed deep wells A5 and 801.

“At Deep Well A6 we look forward to the findings from the drilling of the potentially oil bearing section.”
