Wood Group, Aker, DNV GL, Bibby Secure North Sea Work
John Wood Group plc, Aker Solutions, DNV GL and Bibby Offshore have all been awarded services contracts for oil and gas related work in the North Sea.
Wood Group PSN received a two year contract from the Abu Dhabi National Energy Company PJSC (TAQA) to deliver engineering, construction and maintenance services to the Cormorant Alpha, North Cormorant, Eider, Tern and Harding offshore assets. The contract, which has the option of three one year extensions, is effective immediately.
James Crawford, managing director of WGPSN in the UK and Africa said in a company statement:
“Our commitment is to work in collaboration with our client to prioritize safety and maximize efficiency and productivity. We will draw upon our robust knowledge of these assets, broad capabilities and relentless focus on providing excellence in our service provision, as we continue our long-standing partnership with this key client.”
Aker Solutions' maintenance, modifications and operations (MMO) business in Norway secured a contract from Statoil for preliminary engineering work to enable a tie-in of the Utgard gas and condensate field to the Sleipner facilities in the North Sea.
The work will be managed and executed by Aker Solutions' MMO unit in Stavanger. It builds on a series of modification projects that Aker Solutions has carried out for Statoil at Sleipner over the past five years. Statoil has indicated that it may also exercise an option in the contract for engineering, procurement, construction, installation and commissioning (EPCIC) services for platform modifications, which will be decided on later this year by the development's license partners.
Per Harald Kongelf, head of Aker Solutions' Norwegian operations, said in a company statement:
"This builds on the strengths of our operations in Norway and our expertise in complex modifications. We are pleased to be working further with Statoil on this important field development to secure crucial resources."
Norwegian energy company Statoil also awarded contracts to DNV GL for the verification of several Johan Sverdrup project-related operations, including four topsides, three bridges, three jackets, topside instalation by use of the Allseas single lift vessel Pioneering Spirit and extended site assessment for the jack-up rig in use.
This third party verification aims to provide the operator and the authorities the confidence that the project development has the required safety and quality level.
Regional Manager for DNV GL- Oil & Gas Norway, Kjell Eriksson, said in a company statement:
“The contract demonstrates that our investment in technology, service development and efficient operations is making us competitive also in this cost challenged market. We sincerely look forward to supporting Statoil and the Johan Sverdrup partners on this important project.”
Subsea services firm Bibby Offshore also announced Monday that it won a multimillion dollar contract with a “North Sea operator” to deliver decommissioning operations in the Northern North Sea East Shetland Basin.
The agreement, due to commence in the second quarter of 2016, will be completed by the end of this year, according to a company statement. Under the contract, Bibby Offshore will carry out remedial rock placement over the existing 16 inch oil export pipeline, the recovery of 12 inch pipeline bundles, subsea structure removal with pile severance and debris removal. Waste disposal services will also be provided by the company, recovering items that can be decontaminated, disposed or recycled.
Bibby Offshore Chief Operating Officer Fraser Moonie said in a company statement:
“We are looking forward to building on our existing relationship with this particular client and continuing our partnership to provide subsea services for its offshore assets.
“Decommissioning work is of a specialist nature and, with more oil and gas infrastructures reaching the end of their design life, multi-industry experience is key to ensure each project is complete in a safe and responsible manner. With ten years of experience in decommissioning projects globally, often in highly challenging conditions, we have built up a strong track record and are ideally positioned to support companies operations.”
