AGCC Calls for Oil, Gas Tribunal Hearings to be Held in Aberdeen

The Aberdeen & Grampian Chamber of Commerce has called on the UK government to hold oil and gas tribunal hearings in Aberdeen to demonstrate its “commitment to the continued success of the oil and gas sector there”.

Sent in a letter to the Secretary of State for Scotland David Mundell, the AGCC’s request cited the proximity of oil and gas operators and staff, the local legal expertise and associated travel cost savings as reasons for holding the hearings in Aberdeen.

Commenting on the proposed changes, AGCC Research & Policy Director James Bream said in a chamber statement:

“We have been supportive of the creation of the Oil & Gas Authority and its location in Aberdeen recognizes the city’s role at the centre of activity in the UK Continental Shelf.

“As the oil and gas capital of Europe, both the private and public sector have a role in anchoring the region’s worldwide status, and locating the tribunal team in the city would help support these objectives.”
