Lundin's Fosen Well Comes up Dry

Swedish oil firm Lundin Petroleum reported Monday that its Fosen exploration well in the North Sea has come up dry. The well will now be plugged and abandoned.

The well – which was designated #16/4-10 and located south of the Luno II field within the PL544 exploration license on the southern flank of the Utsira High in the Norwegian North Sea – was targeting Jurassic reservoirs in a four-way dip closure with stratigraphic upside. A thick (525 feet) reservoir section was encountered in the well, which had good properties, but this was found to be water-wet with some oil shows. Lundin undertook a data-collection exercise in order to understand the context of the well in relation to remaining prospectivity in the area.

The well was drilled to a total depth of 8,655 feet below mean sea level in a water depth of 312 feet by the Island Innovator (mid-water semisub) rig.

Lundin Norway is the operator of PL544, having a 40-percent interest in the license. Other partners are Lime Petroleum Norway (30 percent) and Wellesley Petroleum (30 percent).
