NZ Government Releases 2016 Petroleum Data Pack

Petroleum permitting agency New Zealand Petroleum & Minerals announced Monday that it has released its latest Petroleum Exploration Data Pack. The agency said this year's pack adds several new projects to the compilation of open-file seismic and well data, interpretation projects, reports and studies that have been published in previous editions.

The update includes new open-file data for an additional 40 wells, and additional 263,000 miles of 2D seismic data as well as 13,750 square miles of 3D seismic data. It also includes the final Fluid Inclusion Stratigraphy Study of ten wells across the Great South, Taranaki, East Coast and Reinga-Northland basins, and a Petroleum Prospectivity Screening Report of the northern East Coast Basin.

Other basins covered in the pack include the Tasman Frontier, Reinga-Northland, Pegasus, Raukaumara, West Coast, West Southland, Wanganui and the Great South-Canterbury basins.

David Darby, who is Manager for Commercial Analysis and Investment at the NZP&M commented in a statement that the 2016 Petroleum Exploration Data Pack delivers an updated selection of New Zealand's best petroleum data.

"This year's Data Pack continues to build on previous editions. It features a number of recent, high-quality 3D seismic surveys within the Taranaki Basin, our only producing basin which continues to attract investment. In addition, we are pleased to feature new insights into the petroleum potential of the East Coast Basin.

"The Petroleum Exploration Data Pack as an essential tool for any investor in our upstream oil & gas sector."

Demonstrations of the data pack will also be featured at the New Zealand Petroleum Conference 2016 in Auckland, which takes place between March 20 and 22.
