Total E&P RDC has commenced the acquisition of a 2D seismic survey across the Democratic Republic of Congo’s Block III, following the granting of a two-year extension to current exploration period of the block by the Minister of Hydrocarbons of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
As reported previously, the current survey design will see the acquisition of 186 miles of 2D seismic data over the northern part of the Block III area. The survey will not encroach on the Virunga National Park, however, according to a statement from SacOil, which holds a 12.5 percent effective interest in Block III.
Total is the operator of the block, which is situated in the Albertine Graben region of the Democratic Republic of Congo. The seismic acquisition program is in fulfilment of the work program obligations.
