GPK Flows 65,000 Barrels of Oil from Shewashan Discovery

Gas Plus Khalakan announced Thursday that it has flowed 65,000 barrels of oil, over a period of 180 days, from the Shewashan discovery, which is located in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.

Increased water production at the site has since required the Shewashan-1 well to be shut-in pending a workover, or sidetrack, or conversion to a water disposal well if required, according to a company statement. GPK has already spud the Shewashan-2 development well and is planning to drill the Shewashan-3 development well immediately after the completion of Shewashan-2.

Steve Lowden, CEO of New Age, which owns 75 percent of GPK, commented in a company statement:

“GPK is delighted with the progress of the Shewashan development and with the continued support from the KRG and the improving conditions in Kurdistan.”
