CIMC Raffles Holds Naming Ceremony for North Dragon Semisub in China

Yantai CIMC Raffles Offshore Ltd. (CIMC Raffles) announced Thursday that the newbuild North Dragon (mid-water seimsub), owned by North Sea Rig Holding Ltd., has been named in a ceremony at the company's Yantai Shipyard in China.

When operational, the North Dragon semisub, which meets the requirements laid down by the Norwegian Maritime Directorate (NMD) and Norway's Norsok standards, can operate in North Sea and the Barents Sea. The dynamic position 3 (DP3) DNV GL-classed semisub, which can work in waters up to 1,640 feet (500 meters) and drill up to 26,246 feet (8,000 meters), is equipped with an 8-line mooring systems. The ice class North Dragon can also operate at temperatures up to minus 25 degree Centigrade.

"Adopted GM4-D design, the basic design of North Dragon is completed by Global Maritime and CIMC Raffles, while all detailed design and construction are independently finished by CIMC Raffles. Furthermore, CIMC Raffles owns 80 percent (of the) intellectual properties," the company said in a press release.

Meantime, CIMC Raffles revealed that Beacon Atlantic (mid-water semisub), the second GM4-D unit designed and built by the firm, is now undergoing mating of the deck box and the low hull. Delivery of Beacon Atlantic is scheduled for the last quarter of 2016.

Separately, the Chinese rigbuilder reported that building of the upper and lower hull for the Beacon Pacific (mid-water semisub) -- the third GM4-D unit being constructed by CIMC Raffles -- is ongoing with delivery of the rig targeted for the last quarter of 2017.
