FMC Kongsberg Secures Johan Sverdrup EPC Contract

FMC Kongsberg Subsea AS has been awarded an EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) contract, worth an estimated $160 million, for subsea equipment for the Johan Sverdrup project.

The contract includes the delivery of 13 subsea trees and well heads, as well as three subsea templates and control systems. In the first phase of the Johan Sverdrup development, three standard templates will be installed north and south of the field center in water depths of 360 to 390 feet. The award is based on a new standard vertical subsea tree, which has been developed in cooperation with the supplier market and DNV. This new standard is expected to help increase cost efficiency for future subsea developments.

Kjetel Digre, Statoil’s senior vice president for the Johan Sverdrup development project, commented in a company statement:

“The subsea equipment which will be delivered from FMC Technologies makes up an important part of the Johan Sverdrup development. The subsea equipment enables reinjection of sea water and produced water into the Johan Sverdrup reservoir when we have started production. In this way, we will achieve maximum recovery and value creation from the Johan Sverdrup resources. At the same time, this is a favourable environmental solution, as we will minimize discharges to sea from the field.”

Statoil is the operator of the Johan Sverdrup field with a 40.0267 percent interest. Lundin Norway holds a 22.6 percent interest, Petoro holds a 17.36 percent interest, Det norske oljeselskap has an 11.5733 percent interest and Maersk Oil has an 8.44 percent interest.
