Premier Oil Comes Up Dry in North Sea Well
The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate announced Thursday that Premier Oil Norge, the operator of production license 539, has come up dry in exploration well 3/7-10 S in the southern section of the North Sea.
Drilled to a vertical depth of 11,364 feet, the purpose of the well was to prove petroleum in the Ula and Bryne formations. The Ula formation was not encountered and the Bryne formation encountered water wet sands. Well 3/7-10 S, which was drilled by the Maersk Guardian (350’ ILC), will now be permanently plugged and abandoned and the Maersk Guardian will proceed to Fredrikshavn to be laid up.
Premier Oil holds a 40 percent interest in production license 539. Suncor Energy and DEA Norge both hold a 20 percent interest, Dana Petroleum holds a 12 percent interest and Ithaca Petroleum holds an 8 percent interest.
