GMB Members Accept Latest OCA Proposals

GMB union members have voted to accept the latest proposals by the Offshore Contractors’ Association (OCA) over changes to conditions for offshore workers in the North Sea.

The latest development follows the news last month that Unite union members decided to reject the proposals, with 63.5 percent of balloted members voting against the OCA’s offer to move to a three-week-on, three-week-off shift pattern, with a variable remuneration offer to mitigate the impact on terms and conditions caused by the changes to working-time arrangements.

Both Unite and GMB unions called for strike action in May 2015, following the OCA’s proposals to change working conditions for offshore workers in UK waters. In June this year, unions put official industrial action ballots on hold while considering the improved offer from the OCA. Following the GMB’s acceptance of the latest terms offered by the OCA, the union has urged Unite members to try and find a solution to the dispute.

David Hulse, GMB National Officer commented in a union statement:

"GMB members have voted to accept the latest offer from the employers to end this dispute. We have conveyed the result to the OCA employers. In view of the rejection of the offer by Unite members in a ballot vote, GMB is urging Unite and the employers to join with us to seek a resolution of the dispute."
