Waitsia-2 Appraisal Well Onshore Australia Hits TD
AWE Limited announced Monday that the Waitsia-2 appraisal well, located in the Perth Basin onshore Western Australia, has reached a total depth of 11,581 feet.
The well, which was spud on June 28, 2015, aims to test the gas potential in the southern extension of the Waitsia Field, with primary targets in the deep conventional formations in the Kingia and High Cliff Sandstones. Elevated gas shows were observed in the targets, according to the company, which also stated that the well would be complete by around mid-August.
Preparations are currently underway to commence a wireline logging program at the well. Depending on the results of further analysis at Waitsia-2, AWE may undertake a flow test and complete the project as a production well for a potential future field development. The joint venture partners in the L1/L2 permits, which Waitsia-2 is located in, comprise AWE Limited, which is the operator with a 50 percent interest, and Origin Energy Resources Limited, which holds the remaining 50 percent interest.
