Saka Energi Emerges as Serious Player in Indonesia Oil, Gas Industry

Saka’s production received a boost May 17 when field operator Malaysia’s Petroliam Nasional Berhad’s (PETRONAS) unit PETRONAS Carigali flowed first oil from the former’s 20-percent owned Bukit Tua field in the Ketapang block.

More hydrocarbons will also be added to Saka’s oil and gas production when operator PETRONAS Carigali commences production from the Muriah block in the fourth quarter of 2015.

Other E&P Work in Progress

The ambitious upstream newcomer has a 30 percent stake in the Salamander Energy-operated Bangkanai PSC onshore east Kalimantan. Salamander, now a subsidiary of Ophir Energy plc., owns 70 percent interest of the block. Both companies also have a similar partnership in the West Bangkanai PSC.

“We hope to produce first gas [from Bangkanai] next year,” Tumbur told Rigzone.
