Tran believes that strong work ethic and core values are just some of the benefits that veterans bring to any organization.

“Loyalty is one of those core values that is deep-rooted in their makeup and employers would benefit from that loyalty when they add more military veterans to their workforce,” he said.

Tran said that while working for a previous company, the turnover rate was around 68 percent for oilfield service workers. After several attempts to launch a military veteran hiring initiative, Tran’s efforts were approved and the company hired dozens of veterans. After just a year, only 24 percent of those veterans had left the organization.

“I’ve always believed that a lot of companies hire based on experience and credentials and they place passion last,” Tran said. “My philosophy is to select candidates based on passion first because with passion, everything else can be attained. You can teach skills, but you can’t teach passion. Transitioning veterans have had an extremely hard time in the civilian job market and when they find a company that believes in them and gives them a chance at an opportunity, they’re not going to forget that.”
