TGS to Conduct New 2D Surveys Offshore Eastern Canada
Seismic survey firm TGS announced plans Tuesday to conduct two new multi-client 2D surveys offshore Eastern Canada.
The surveys, which are both in partnership with seismic data acquisition firm PGS, will acquire approximately 18,000 miles of seismic data, according to TGS. This data will be gathered using the Atlantic Explorer vessel and the Sanco Spirit vessel, both of which will utilize PGS 'GeoStreamer' technology.
The Atlantic Explorer will acquire approximately 11,000 miles of seismic data in the Southeast Grand Banks from June 2015, and the Sanco Spirit will collect approximately 7,000 miles of seismic in the South Labrador, Northeastern and Eastern Newfoundland area from July 2015.
TGS Western Hemisphere Senior VP Katja Akentieva said in a company statement:
"TGS's continued investment in this region reflects our support of Newfoundland-Labrador's provincial energy strategy, including more detailed coverage in the expected future AOIs (Areas of Interest). Including these new surveys the total 2D library size in East Coast Canada will reach approximately 71,000 miles since the TGS and PGS joint venture started acquiring data in 2011.
"In combination with our interpretation products the data will assist our customers with their evaluation of the plays providing a unique insight into this region's potential."
