Pink Petro's CEO Mehnert Bags Vanguard Award
Donna Cole, the founder of Cole Chemical and a Pink Petro™ executive member, was honored with the “Strong, Smart, and Bold Award at the Girls Incorporated of Greater Houston’s 19th annual “Strong, Smart, and Bold Celebration” Luncheon held April 23 at the Royal Sonesta Hotel in Houston. Pink Petro™ CEO and Founder Katie Mehnert received the Vanguard Award in recognition of Mehnert’s commitment to developing a pipeline of talent in STEM careers at the luncheon.
Cole started Cole Chemical & Distributing, Inc. in 1980. Its revenues now are in excess of $80 million. Cole Chemical supplies chemicals, synthetic lubricants, fuels and specialty chemicals with supply chain management services to the aerospace, automotive, refineries, petrochemical, specialty chemical plants, personal care, and electric utility industries.
Mehnert, an oil industry executive recently named “One of the 5 Houstonians to know” by the Houston Business Journal, launched Pink Petro™, a social media channel designed to unite and advance women in the energy industry, and help close the gender gap in March during International Women's Day.
In less than two months, Pink Petro™ amassed hundreds of members in 13 countries, including the USA, Norway, Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, China, and Australia. It has been covered in trade media, national media, and international media. The social media channel received seed money from Halliburton, Shell and Jive Software.
Girls Incorporated CEO Rita Kirkup said, “Donna Cole and Katie Mehnert is a shining example of what women can do if they have the mindset, the mentors and the opportunities to succeed in male-dominated industries, such as the energy industry.”
Mehnert is a strong supporter of Girls Incorporated. “Events such as today’s luncheon are important to remind all of us on the value of encouraging the next generation of professional women to be strong, smart and bold as they forge their careers.”
On Tuesday, May 5, Pink Petro will celebrate its launch with a reception at the Junior League of Houston, 1811 Briar Oaks Lane 77027 from 6:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.
