Tamarind Appoints Former Talisman Executive Ron Aston as Vice Chairman
Tamarind Energy (Tamarind) announced Wednesday the appointment of Ron Aston as vice chairman of Tamarind. With more than 30 years in the oil and gas industry, Aston brings a wealth of experience, relationships and knowledge to the team.
Having recently retired from Talisman Energy where he acted as senior vice-president and country manager of Malaysia, Aston’s last 15 years in South East Asia have provided him with significant expertise in the region with one of the leading former independents in the region.
Aston has held senior financial and general management roles at leading operators in Malaysia, Indonesia and Myanmar, including Conoco, Cities Service, Elf Aquitaine (Total) and Premier Oil. Drawing on this experience, Aston brings advanced insight and a deep industry network from which the Tamarind team will benefit. Aston has also acted as president of the Indonesia Petroleum Association (IPA), Indonesia's industry representative body, during which time Aston was able to build an even stronger relationship between the industry and government.
“Ron Aston brings a great passion and invaluable network to the role,” states Ian Angell, CEO of Tamarind. “I have greatly enjoyed working alongside Ron in Asia for the better part of the last fifteen years, and I look forward to building and continuing our strong relationship on behalf of Tamarind.”
Blackstone Senior Managing Director, Angelo Acconcia said, “Ron’s addition to the team and Tamarind Board further augments the significant expertise, successful track record, relationships and resources Tamarind has and can offer to its partners. He has a deep understanding of the region and set of relationships which will be important to Tamarind and its success as it continues to build its reputation, presence in the region and delivering on its commitment to being a best in class partner.”
Aston holds an Honors Degree in Economics and Politics from the University of Leeds as well as being a graduate of Advanced Management Programme at INSEAD, Fontainbleau in France. Aston is also a Chartered Accountant and a distinguished Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants England & Wales (ICEAW).
