Vollgrav South Well Comes Up Dry

Sweden's Lundin Petroleum reported Friday that its Vollgrav South exploration well in Norwegian production license 631 has come up dry.

The wildcat well, designated 33/12-10S, is located over the Vollgrav South prospect some 90 miles west of Florø on the Norwegian west coast and between the Gullfaks and Statfjord fields.

Lundin said the main objective of well 33/12-10S was to test the reservoir properties and hydrocarbon potential of the prospect's Upper Jurassic sandstones that are equivalent to those found in the Borg field. But the well found no hydrocarbons and is now being plugged and abandoned as a dry hole.

Lundin Norway is the operator of the well, with a 60-percent working interest in PL631. Bayerngas Norge and Fortis Petroleum Norway hold 30-percent and 10-percent stakes respectively.

The well was drilled using the Bredford Dolphin (mid-water semisub) rig, which will now proceed to PL584 in the Norwegian Sea to drill the Lindarormen prospect.
