TGS Enters Anadarko Basin with Two 3D Surveys

Norwegian seismic survey firm TGS announced Wednesday that it will be carrying out two new multi-client surveys in Oklahoma, onshore U.S., later this year and early in 2015.

TGS said that it has entered into an agreement with an oil and gas company to participate in an onshore 3D seismic project called Loyal within the Anadarko Basin. Loyal will span approximately 589 square miles over Kingfisher and Grady counties, targeting the prolific Meramec, Cana Woodford, Woodford Shale and Hunton intervals within the STACK play fairway. The project will be complete during the fourth quarter of 2014 and then the processing of the data will be performed by Arcis before preliminary data becomes available to clients by the end of 2014.

Meanwhile, TGS plans in 1Q 2015 to start recording data for its Blanchard 3D survey that will span approximately 433 square miles over Grady and McClain counties. This survey is designed to image complex faulting and subsurface targets over the Mississippian through Devonian intervals, and it lies in the core of the South Central Oklahoma Oil Play (SCOOP) that targets the Woodford Shale and also covers the recently-announced overlying Springer Shale interval. Final data will be available to clients in 4Q 2015.

Rod Starr, senior VP of Western Hemisphere for TGS, commented in a company statement:

"TGS' entry into the Anadarko Basin is consistent with our strategy to identify prolific and high potential onshore plays where the application of seismic can deliver significant benefits to the exploration and production of hydrocarbons. Through these two projects, TGS establishes a solid position in this new focus area with more than 1,022 square miles of high quality 3D seismic data complemented by an extensive amount of geological data."
