Engineering Students Rank Shell in Top 10 of World's Attractive Employers
Over 100,000 engineering and IT students were asked who they would consider their ideal employer and the results put Shell in the top 10 for a second year running. Universum, a global research and advisory firm, asked students from 12 countries which employer attributes or job aspects they found most appealing and Shell ranked highly for innovation, challenging work and professional development.
“We’re delighted to see that Shell has retained its top 10 position. Investing in our people is a priority and we continue to actively support them in reaching their potential” said Nicole van Ingen, Shell Executive Vice President Talent and Development.
Students around the world ranked professional development high on their wish list when considering a future employer. Shell’s structured and challenging Graduate Programme, Advanced Technical Programme and its well established leadership coaching appeal to students who want to know they have real career prospects ahead of them.
Identifying and developing leadership potential within the organization and Shell’s strategy of developing people to their full potential ensures that its talented employees feel valued. Shell sees its development of leaders as a key part of becoming the most competitive and innovative energy company in the world. Its current leadership team are personally involved in developing tomorrow’s leaders, something that today’s students seek out.
Innovation is another key factor affecting Shell’s placement near the top of the Universum list, with engineers in particular exhibiting a strong desire to work in innovative environments. Fortune ranked Shell one of the top 10 most innovative companies in the world earlier in the year. With Shell, employees have the opportunity to work collaboratively across borders, on meaningful innovations and that’s something that appeals to engineering and IT students.
These students are also likely to be naturally curious and therefore drawn to a creative environment where they will be constantly challenged, encouraged to push boundaries and explore new frontiers. Choosing a future employer is an exciting time for students and graduates and right now Shell appears to have an excellent proposition.
