TGS to Start New 2D Seismic Survey in Central GOM

Norwegian survey firm TGS announced Wednesday that it will soon begin a new 2D seismic multi-client survey in the ultra-deep water part of the US central Gulf of Mexico.

Called Snipe Phase 52, the survey will include 7,320 miles of data that TGS said will supplement its existing library in the region and will provide critical well ties to a number of recent discoveries.

TGS Senior Vice President Rod Starr commented in a company statement:

"The new project will provide long-offset, high resolution data required to image potential reservoirs in the lower Tertiary and deeper, as our understanding of the basin and depositional processes continues to evolve. The Snipe Phase 52 program will extend to the U.S.-Mexico international boundary and will complement TGS's previously announced plans to acquire 2D data in the southern Gulf of Mexico waters, pending permits from the Mexican authorities."

The seismic data will be acquired by the M/V Osprey Explorer, which will tow 7.3 miles of cable. The project will begin during the third quarter of 2014, with final data expected to be available to clients in 4Q 2015.
