Technip Holds Naming Ceremony for New Subsea Vessel

Technip reported Monday that it has held a naming ceremony in Norway for its new "North Sea Atlantic" subsea construction vessel.

The French oilfield services firm said that more than 200 guests from ship owner North Sea Shipping, Technip and supply chain partners gathered to attend the ceremony at the NorYards BMV shipyard in Laksevåg, Bergen, Norway.

The event was hosted by North Sea Shipping CEO Hallvard Klepsvik, whose wife Sigrid Anne Våge acted as the vessel godmother.

Designed to Technip's specifications, the multi-purpose vessel is capable of undertaking pipe lay, subsea construction and inspection, repair and maintenance projects.  The vessel will work predominantly in the North Sea but is also suitable for deep-water operations worldwide.

The dynamically-positioned, Class 3 vessel is equipped with a 550-ton active heave-compensated crane and a 2,000-ton underdeck carousel for product storage. It is capable of accommodating an openable vertical lay system for pipe laying of flexibles and umbilicals.

The North Sea Atlantic is scheduled to begin its first projects working in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea from August this year.

David McGuire, vice president of Technip's marine operations organization, commented in a company statement:

"We are delighted that the North Sea Atlantic is joining our fleet of specialized vessels, which further expands our capabilities on offer to clients. We would like to thank North Sea Shipping for their excellent co-operation throughout the construction phase and look forward to seeing the vessel delivering projects in the field."
