Centrica Comes Up Dry near Ula Field

The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate reported Wednesday that Centrica Resources Norge's wildcat well 8/10-6S on Norwegian production license 405 has failed to find hydrocarbons.

The well was drilled some eight miles southwest of the Ula field in the southeastern part of the North Sea. It was designed to prove petroleum in Upper Jurassic reservoir rocks in a new segment southwest of the 8/10-4S well, which found oil in 2011.

Although the 8/10-6S well encountered some 180 feet of sandstone in the Ula formation, with good reservoir quality, it failed to find hydrocarbons. It has now been plugged and abandoned.

The well is the seventh exploration well on PL405. It was drilled by the Maersk Giant (350' ILC) rig, which will now proceed to production license 494 in the southern North Sea to drill wildcat well 2/9-5S.
