Lifeboat specialist Survival Craft Inspectorate (SCI) revealed Wednesday that it is planning to recruit 20 additional employees by the end of this year as it announced the appointment of a new managing director for its Asia and Australasia operations.
SCI, which currently employs 180 personnel, is a specialist in the manufacture, testing and servicing of lifeboats as well as fast rescue craft, release mechanisms, winches and davits to the global merchant shipping, cruise and oil and gas sectors.
The new director, Mohit Batra, has joined the firm from the American Bureau of Shipping where he was in charge of strategy and business development. SCI noted that he has a strong background in the maritime industry, having spent 12 years as sea and the past 10 years onshore in senior positions. Commenting on the company's growth plans in a statement, he said:
"SCI has positioned itself as a global leader in the industry with quality and reliable products and services. The SCI brand has built up a strong reputation and we foresee a substantial increase in demand for our products and services.
"We plan to grow our market share, strengthen the local team and increase our presence in [the Asia/Australasia] region. I am excited at the prospects and opportunities this region has and confident that SCI can meet the growing demands and expectations of the industry."
Batra is based in SCI's Singapore office.
