Marco Polo Production to Resume in Early July

Anadarko Petroleum Corp. expects production from its Marco Polo platform in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico to resume in early July after shutting in the platform in early May for repairs.

The company shut-in production at the platform May 8 following a compressor fire. Anadarko said it took immediate action and was successful in putting out the fire. No injuries occurred as a result of the incident.

Work to repair electrical wiring and other equipment continues, Anadarko said in a June 23 statement on its website. At the time of the shut-in, Marco Polo was producing approximately 12,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day net to Anadarko’s interest.

Installed in January 2004, the Marco Polo TLP is the world’s deepest dry tree TLP. Marco Polo is situated at Green Canyon Block 608 in the deepwater Gulf in 4,326 feet of water, according to SubseaIQ. The TLP is designed to process 120,000 barrels per day and 300 million cubic feet per day of oil and natural gas, with space for up to six subsea tiebacks.

The Marco Polo TLP serves as a production hub for the K2, K2 North, Marco Polo and Genghis Khan fields, according to SubseaIQ. All four fields have estimated recoverable reserves of more than 100 million barrels of oil equivalent.

Production from Anadarko’s wholly owned and operated Marco Polo field, located on Green Canyon Block 608 in approximately 4,300 feet of water, began production in March 2004.
