PGS and WesternGeco Win Barents Sea Seismic Work

Statoil reported Tuesday that it has awarded Norwegian seismic survey firm Petroleum Geo-Services and Schlumberger's WesternGeco seismic unit contracts to conduct seismic data acquisition in the southeastern Barents Sea.

The surveys cover blocks proposed for the 23rd concession round by the Norwegian Ministry of Petroleum and Energy and will cover a total area of approximately 5,270 square miles.

Statoil is responsible for the operation of a project to acquire 3D seismic data over the areas on behalf of 33 participating oil companies.

The surveys will begin in April and will continue throughout the second and third quarters of 2014. Processing of data is then expected to last until summer 2015.
