Tyler to Succeed Gammell as Cairn Chairman

UK independent oil and gas firm Cairn Energy announced Monday that Sir Bill Gammell will retire as its non-executive chairman on May 15. Ian Tyler, currently a non-executive director of the company.

Tyler, who has been an independent non-executive director at Cairn since June 2013, holds a number of other non-executive positions in a variety of industries. He served as CEO of Balfour Beatty between 2005 and 2013.

Cairn Chief Executive Simon Thomson commented in a company statement:

"Bill has been an exceptional leader and leaves a lasting legacy at Cairn. His role in the company's growth over 25 years has delivered significant value to shareholders. I am delighted that Ian Tyler has agreed to become our new chairman given his extensive listed company and non-executive experience."
