Aasta Hansteen Development to Provide 200 Jobs

Statoil ASA’s Aasta Hansteen and Polarled developments will provide 200 jobs on the Helgeland coast, the operator said in a released statement.

“Aasta Hansteen is a pioneer project in Northern Norway … that will employ new technology to produce the resources, while building the world’s largest Spar platform. Aasta Hansteen is also a pioneer when it comes to creating local ripple effects in the development phase in Northern Norway,” said Torolf Christensen, head of the Aasta Hansteen field development, in a released statement.

Most of the open positions are located in Mo I Rana, where the Momek Group is constructing 32 suction anchors, for Subsea 7, for the Aasta Hansteen project. Additionally, Wasco Energy is building a plant in Mo I Rana for the application of a concrete coating on 40,000 individual pipelines for the Polareled pipeline.

Adding to this opportunity of new jobs is Aker Solutions, employing about 50 people at Sandnessjoen for the construction of the subsea templates for the Aasta Hansteen field, Statoil said.

Momek is fabricating two of the first suction anchors for the project, which will moor the 70,000-tonne Spar platform in 4,265 feet of water in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea.

“Aasta Hansteen is set to create greater local and regional spinoff effects than we assumed in the Plan for Development and Operation,” Christensen added.

He expects more local spinoffs from the projects in the future.

Aasta Hansteen is a gas field situated about 186 miles from land in 4,265 feet of water in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea. The Polarled project is a new 298-mile gas pipeline from Aasta Hansteen to Nyhamna in More og Romsdal.

Discovered in 1997, the gas field has been under development since 2012. Project management and engineering have commenced with offshore work to begin in 2015 and 2016.
