Lundin Completes Torvastad Sidetrack

Sweden’s Lundin Petroleum reported Tuesday that its sidetrack well (16/2-20A) on the Torvastad prospect on production license 501 in the Norwegian North Sea is in the process of being completed.

The well was drilled as a sidetrack some 770 meters west of the main Torvastad exploration well (16/2-20S) to investigate the potential of an up-flank continuous Jurassic reservoir. The reservoir section was cored with oil shows, but it demonstrated poor reservoir quality. Wireline logging is ongoing and preliminary results confirm the core observations.

Lundin is the operator of the PL501 license with a 40-percent interest. Other partners in the license include Statoil, with a 40-percent interest, and Maersk Oil Norway, with a 20-percent interest.

Once logging of the well has been completed, the Island Innovator (mid-water semisub) rig will move to PL338 to drill the Edvard Grieg South East appraisal well (16/1-18).
