Largest Technology Conference in Eastern Hemisphere Kicks Off in Qatar

The 7th edition of the International Petroleum Technology Conference (IPTC) which is the largest oil and gas event in the Eastern hemisphere, started Monday in Doha, Qatar, and was inaugurated by H.E. Sheikh Abdullah Bin Naser Bin Khalifa Al-Thani, Qatar’s Prime Minister and Interior Minister.

The multi society event, which is organized by the American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG), the European Association of Geoscientists and Engineers (EAGE), the Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG), and the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) is set to attract over 6000 oil and gas professionals to what will be the largest ever IPTC.

Qatar Petroleum and ExxonMobil are co-hosting the latest edition of IPTC. Representatives from all segments of the energy industry and government officials from around the world flocked in Doha to address the challenge of meeting an increasing global demand for energy while reducing environmental impacts associated with its production and use.

The conference theme of “Unlocking Energy through Innovation, Technology and Capability” sets the tone for attendees to discuss technological advancements that make it possible for the industry to effectively manage the risks associated with energy development.

Speaking during the opening ceremony, Qatar’s Prime Minister and Interior Minister said the Qatar is keen to host and sponsor this event due to the importance of the energy sector in the prosperity and the development of the country.

As Qatar holds third largest gas reserves in the world, the Prime Minister said that this natural wealth comes with more responsibilities and obligations.

“We are keen to invest these resources to build a modern and advanced country, and we also work hard preserve these reserves for future generations.”
