OTC Enters Asian Market with Inaugural Malaysian Conference in 2014

Rigzone: Offshore oil and gas exploration and development has been on the rise in Asia in recent years. What is the theme of OTC Asia conference 2014, and why was this chosen?

Stokes: The theme is meeting the challenges for Asia’s growth. Supply and demand continues to rise and the challenge is that it is becoming harder and harder to find resources and to produce them economically. Easy oil is gone so we have to be clever by finding new solutions. The conference will bring people together to have a discussion about this.

Rigzone: What are the key topics that will be covered by the OTC Asia conference? Can you explain why these topics were chosen by the organizer?

Stokes: We are offering 53 technical sessions, 10 panels, two plenary sessions and 10 country-specific sessions. The topics we will discuss at OTC Asia are similar to the topics we discuss at all of our conferences except they will be focused on the Asian region.

Two intriguing plenary sessions worth noting are “Easy Oil is Over – How NOCs are Reshaping to Stay Fit in the New Normal” and “Game Changing Technologies in Offshore Exploration and Production.”

Rigzone: What will be the key messages that participants can take away from attending the OTC Asia conference?

Stokes: The oil and gas industry in Asia is significant and at the same time there are many opportunities and challenges to overcome. The opportunities are up for grabs to the people who are willing to be involved. Secondly, our industry will be more successful if we continue to share knowledge and experiences on common problems. That is closely tied to the mission of OTC. Finally, the future looks great for the oil and gas industry and specifically for those working in the marine environment. It is making real progress, and we can continue to be excited about what’s to come.
