Utica 2013 Production Surpasses 2012 Production Level

Third quarter 2013 production from Utica shale horizontal wells surpassed production levels recorded in Utica shale wells in 2012, the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) reported Tuesday.

ODNR reported that 245 wells out of 285 wells for which data was reported in 2013 produced 1.3 million barrels of oil and 33,606,075 thousand cubic feet of natural gas. The 245 wells produced on average 5,439 barrels of oil and an average 137,168 thousand cubic feet. of gas. The average number of days in production was 55, ODNR reported in a press release.

Forty wells had no production because they are waiting on pipeline infrastructure, ODNR reported.

Gulfport Energy’s Boy Scout well in Harrison County, Ohio, was the highest producing oil well in 2013, at 41,617 barrels of oil during 70 days of production. Gulfport’s Stutzman well in Belmont County was the highest producing gas well at 1,249,739 Mcf during 89 days of production.

Utica shale wells in 2012 produced 635,876 barrels of oil and 12,831,292 Mcf of gas, according to a report onODNR’s website. Oil and gas companies submitted production reports for 85 wells in 2012, including 63 commercial production wells. Nineteen of these wells were tested and shut-in and three were dry wells and abandoned. None of the wells produced for the entire year, ODNR said on the website.
