ADIPEC CEOs Session: Global CEOs Share Perspectives

As ADIPEC is taking place the same time as recent international peace talks between the five big powers and Iran, which took place in Geneva with the possibility of reaching an agreement with Iran regarding nuclear weapons, CEOs attending the sessions commented on the possibility of the return of Iran to the international gas scene. De Mergerie was candid in his assessment of the potential significance of Iran returning to the international fold, as it has a gas reserves totaling 1,046 trillion cubic feet.

“Having Iran back in the international community would be good news,” De Mergerie said.

Meanwhile, Abdelhamid Zerguine, CEO of Algeria national oil company Sonatrach, said that his country is committed to continue efforts to increase oil and gas reserves, adding that the recent gas discovery that his company made was significant. The CEO didn’t disclose the exact reserves found, but he said that it is a huge discovery.

“We are processing the results and will announce it in the next few weeks,” Zerguine said.

Early this month, Algeria’s Energy and Mines Minister Youcef Yusfi said his country expects to double its gas production in the next seven to 10 years after making a number of significant oil and gas finds in maturing and new fields.
