COSL Contracts DSIC Offshore, CMHI to Build 1 Semisub, 2 Jackups

China Oilfield Services Limited (COSL) signed construction contracts with Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Offshore Co., Ltd. (DSIC Offshore) and China Merchants Heavy Industry (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd. to construct one deepwater semisubmersible and two jackups.

DISC Offshore will undertake construction of the semisub and a jackup, while China Merchants Heavy Industry will build a jackup, a source representing COSL told Rigzone.

DISC Offshore will build HYSY982, which is a sixth generation deepwater semisubmersible drilling rig equipped with DP3 dynamic positioning system. The semisub will be equipped to operate at a maximum depth of 5,000 feet (1,524 meters) and will have a maximum drilling depth of 30,000 feet (9,144 meters). It is expected to be delivered in August 2016.

DISC Offshore will also construct the HYSY943 jackup, which will be designed to operate at a maximum depth of 400 feet (122 meters) and drilled to a maximum depth of 35,000 feet (10,668 meters). The jackup is scheduled for delivery in September 2015.

Separately, China Merchants Heavy Industry will build the HYSY944 jackup. The jackup will have a maximum operating depth of 400 feet (122 meters) and a maximum drilling depth of 30,000 feet (9,144 meters). Delivery of the HYSY944 is planned for October 2015.

"HYSY944 is CNOOC's first large pile shoe jackup, which will fill the vacuum in the Group's equipment for operations on soft formations," COSL said in a press release.

“Commissioning of construction of these three drilling rigs enables us to further optimize our equipment structure, enhance our operational capabilities in deepwater and special conditions, to implement the 'structural adjustment, deepwater and high-end' strategy we have set out for our large-scale equipment, which will further enhance the Group's overall competiveness, creating better value for our shareholders,” COSL Group CEO and President Li Yong said in the same release.
