Shell: Innovation Vital to Australia's LNG Future

He said Shell would continue to explore further innovations for the Australian industry to help maintain the country’s competitiveness.

This would include the potential of LNG for transport, which Shell has already introduced in North America and Europe.

“We are very shortly looking to introduce LNG into transport in Australia targeting very firstly the major trucking route between Melbourne and Sydney,” Buckley said.

“This is another one of the innovations we are looking at to address the potential for gas.”

Buckley added that Australia’s high-cost environment, and the international perception of that, would also need to be addressed for its industry to be competitive.

“In Australia we do face the issue of cost and cost competitiveness,” Buckley said.

“Innovation will solve one part of the problem; the other part is working with government in addressing some of the areas around fiscal stability, around approvals, and the complexities of approvals, and productivity.
