Norway's Sverdrup Well Proves Thinner Than Expected Reservoir

OSLO, Sept 30 (Reuters) – The latest appraisal well on the giant Johan Sverdrup oil field in the Norwegian North Sea showed excellent reservoir quality but the reservoir itself was thinner than expected, the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate said on Monday.

Sverdrup, the biggest find off Norway in decades, is seen holding between 1.7 billion and 3.3 billion barrels of oil and its operators are expected to release a refined resource estimate later this year.

Norway's Statoil and Swedish minnow Lundin Petroleum operate the licences covering Sverdrup while other shareholders include Maersk Oil, Det norske and state holding firm Petoro.
