Wintershall's Amol Well Comes up Dry

Bridge Energy reported Wednesday that the Amol well drilled by partner Wintershall has reached its target depth but, despite some oil being sampled in one of its targets, no reservoir-quality finds were encountered.

The Amol well's primary target was the Åsgard (Cretaceous zone) sandstone, with the secondary target being a fractured basement. Bridge said three cores were cut in Cretaceous and basement levels, with a thin Åsgard sandstone being encountered but with no reservoir quality. Oil was sampled in the basement but no drill stem test will be carried out due to poor observed reservoir properties.

Bridge said the drilling of the Asha East well, the second well in the two-well campaign, will now begin.

The Amol and Asha East prospects are located on Norwegian production license 457, where Wintershall  is the operator with a 40-percent stake and Bridge holds a 20-percent interest.
