Det norske oljeselskap ASA has drilled a dry well in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea on the Augunshaug prospect. Wildcat well 2/1-15, located about 5 miles east of the Gyda field is the first exploration well drilled in Production License 542.
The objective of the well was to prove petroleum in Upper and Middle Jurassic reservoir rocks. The well encountered poorer reservoir quality than expected, and the operator has declared the well dry. Gross potential resources have been estimated between 10 and 80 million barrels of oil equivalents.
Drilled by the Maersk Giant (350’ ILC) jackup in a water depth of 223 feet, the well has been permanently plugged and abandoned.
Production License 542 is operated by Det norske with a 60 percent stake, while Tullow Oil Norge AS holds the remaining interest. The license was awarded to Det norske in February 2010. The license shows to hold both oil and gas.
