DNO Starts Testing Tawke-23 Well in Kurdistan

Norway's DNO International reported Monday that it has begun extensive testing of the Tawke-23 exploration well in the Kurdistan region of Iraq.

In an operations update, DNO said it was the second horizontal well drilling by the company in the Tawke field and that, so far, it has encountered continuous oil shows within a 3,050-foot horizontal section in the main Cretaceous reservoir. The test program, expected to last for up to three weeks, will focus on 10 fracture zones that have production potential.

DNO's first horizontal well in the field, Tawke-20, tested 8,000 barrels per day (bopd) from each of 10 producing intervals in the Cretaceous reservoir and is currently on stream at an average rate of 25,000 bopd.

DNO confirmed that it is currently drilling two other Tawke horizontal development wells, Tawke-21 and Tawke-22. It is also drilling the highly-deviated Benenan-4 well in its Erbil license; this is designed to appraise additional reserves in the Benenan field that were encountered by the Benenan-3 well earlier this year.

The company added that its third-quarter production from fields in Kurdistan, Oman and Yemen will reach record gross levels of around 85,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day based on current trends.
