Aberdeen’s Robert Gordon University (RGU) and Russian oilfield educational services firm Oilteam are getting together to train the next generation of Russia’s offshore energy professionals, the two organizations announced Thursday.
From October this year Oilteam’s academy and RGU will deliver a Master of Science degree in offshore oil and gas engineering at the Black Sea town of Sochi in order to help develop Russia’s capabilities in capturing offshore hydrocarbon resources.
Targeting graduates as well as employees of oil and gas majors, the one-year course aims to equip specialists with backgrounds in land-based exploration and production with comprehensive training about the challenges, technologies and know-how from the world’s leading offshore theaters. Although Russia is currently a world leader in oil and gas production, its offshore resources remain relatively untapped.
Professor Ferdinand von Prondzynski, principal of RGU, commented in a statement:
“Robert Grown University is delighted to be part of a new partnership that further enhances our longstanding relationship with the international energy sector. Together with Oilteam, we look forward to launching this new Master of Science course as a small but strategic step in supporting the development of Russia’s offshore resources.”
