CNOOC Updates on Upstream Operations off China

CNOOC Limited provided an update on its upstream oil and gas operations in China when the company presented its financial performance for the first half of this year recently.

The company acquired approximately 9,321 miles (15,000 kilometers) 2D seismic data and 3,668 square miles (9,500 square kilometers) 3D seismic data for the half year to June 30. CNOOC drilled 48 exploration wells offshore China during this period, making 7 new discoveries and successfully drilling 18 appraisal wells in Bohai Bay and Western South China Sea.

"The new discovery of Bozhong 8-4 indicated a major breakthrough in oil and gas exploration on Neogene shallow layers which have shifted from uplifts to depressions, which will lead to a new phase for oil and gas exploration in the western slope of Bozhong area and reveal the exploration potential of other faults in similar geological structures. Another discovery, Kenli 10-4 opened up a new horizon in the exploration of oil and gas of south slope of Laizhou Sag," the company said in its Interim Report 2013.

CNOOC progressed development of its offshore projects. In the Western South China Sea, the Weizhou 12-8W and Wenchang 19-1N projects are ready to commence production, while the Suizhong 36-1 Phase II adjustment project in the Bohai Bay is also ready to startup. Separately, offshore installation at the Qikou 18-1 adjustment project in Bohai Bay has been completed.

Meanwhile in the Eastern South China Sea, construction has been completed at Lishui 36-1, with the project ready for production. Offshore installation has gotten underway at Liuhua 19-5 and Lufeng 7-2, where a jacket has been installed, while the offshore installation is completed at the Liwan 3-1 development.
