MMA Bags Vessel Contract from Subsea 7 for Gorgon Project

Mermaid Marine Australia Limited (MMA) reported that the firm has been awarded a vessel contract by Subsea 7 to provide tug and barge support for the Heavy Lift and Tie-in Scope on the Chevron-operated Gorgon Project off Western Australia.

Through a combination of owned and chartered vessels, MMA will provide a fleet of nine tug and barge sets to support subsea installation works as well as an offshore positioning tug. The firm, as the lead contractor, will subcontract with other vessel operators to provide the overall vessel requirements.

All vessels involved in the project will deliver equipment to the Gorgon and Jansz-Io fields offshore Barrow Island.

Work on the contract, worth in excess of $90.14 million (AUD 100 million), will commence in October 2013 and is scheduled for completion in 2014.

“We are extremely pleased to continue our working relationship with Subsea 7 on Australian offshore construction projects, and to support this key scope of work. MMA looks forward to working with both Subsea 7 and the Gorgon Project team to deliver a safe and successful outcome as well as supporting numerous local opportunities,” MMA Managing Director Jeff Weber said in a press release.

Subsea 7 was awarded the contract by Chevron to install and tie-in heavy lift structures for the Gorgon project in July 2011.

The Gorgon Project is operated by an Australian subsidiary of Chevron and is a joint venture of the Australian subsidiaries of Chevron (47.3 percent), ExxonMobil (25 percent), Shell (25 percent), Osaka Gas (1.25 percent), Tokyo Gas (1 percent) and Chubu Electric Power (0.417 percent).
