Norvarg Reveals Hydrocarbons

Ithaca Energy has successfully drilled the Norvarg appraisal well in Production License 535 in the Norwegian sector of the Barents Sea. Well 7225/3-2 confirmed the presence of hydrocarbons in the Kobbe formation.

The consortium will perform a drill stem test (DST) on the well to assess the quality of the Kobbe reservoir and the volume potential in the northeastern part of the Norvarg closure.

Norvarg is situated in a water depth of 1,237 feet, about 171 miles north of the Hammerfest LNG plant on Melkoya. The Leiv Eiriksson semisub (UDW semisub) is performing the drilling operations.

In June 2011, Total made a gas discovery in the Norvarg prospect in Production License 535 in the Barents Sea. Preliminary well data indicated that gas is at three different levels, with the majority in the Kobbe formation.

Total operates the license, holding a 40 percent interest; Det norske holds 20%; North Energy holds 20%; Valiant Petroleum holds 13%; and Rocksource holds 7%.
