Lundin Spuds Latest Johan Sverdrup Appraisal Well

Sweden's Lundin Petroleum reported Monday that it has begun drilling appraisal well 16/3-6 on the Johan Sverdrup field (production license 501) in the Norwegian North Sea.

The well is located on the northeastern flank of the field. Its objective is to establish the depth, quality and thickness of the Jurassic reservoir sequences that are approximately 2 miles southeast of well 16/2-13S and 1.25 miles northwest of well 16/3-4, both of which found excellent quality sandstone of Jurassic age.

The planned total depth of well 16/3-6 is approximately 6,645 feet below sea level. The well will be drilled using the Brewin Dolphin (mid-water semisub) rig with the operation expected to take around 50 days.

Lundin is the operator of PL501 and has a 40-percent interest in the license.
