Noble Finds Oil at Carla South

change text size

Noble Energy Inc. has encountered oil in the Carla South exploration well in Block I in Equatorial Guinea. The well found oil in good quality Tertiary-aged sandstones reported partner PA Resources AB in a press release.

The Carla South (I-7) exploration well reached a total measured depth of 12,008 feet in a water depth of 1,903 feet. Drill cuttings, wireline log data and downhole measurements indicate that the deviated well encountered about 39 feet (measured thickness)/33 feet (vertical thickness) of net oil pay in good quality sandstones at the targeted level, PA stated.

Carla South lies on-trend with Carla North which was recently discovered in Block O. Carla South will be sidetracked to an adjacent target, which should take 25 days to complete.

"We are pleased with this successful result which has extended the proven Carla trend from Block O into Block I," said PA Resources CEO Bo Askvik in a press release. "Further analysis of the data will be required to assess the implications of the well and next steps on this trend. This is a positive start to the 2013 drilling program in Block I, which continues with a planned side-track to this well and a further appraisal well and long term test on the Diega field later in 2013."

Drilling lasted for around 25 days and was carried out by the Atwood Hunter (DW semisub).

Noble Energy operates the block with 38 percent interest. Its partners include Glencore (23.75%), Atlas Petroleum (27.55%), PA Resources (5.7%) and GE Petrol (5%).
