Statoil's wildcat well 6610/10-1 on Norwegian Sea production license 386 has come up dry, the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate reported Monday.
The well, located around 75 miles northwest of Sandnessjøen and 55 miles northeast of the Norne field, was being drilled to prove petroleum in Lower Jurassic reservoir rocks in the Helgeland Basin, where eight wildcat wells have so far been drilled. The play in the area has not been confirmed, said the NPD.
The 6610/10-1 well was the first exploration well in production license 386. It was drilled by the West Alpha (mid-water semisub) rig, which will now proceed to the North Sea to drill production wells on the Balder field where ExxonMobil is the operator.
