Packard International, a north Houston company, has purchased all assets of OMSCO's kelly valve product line, a mainstay of the oil and gas industry since 1947. Kelly valves are used in oil and gas drilling operations to control pressure surges or "kick," as well as the flow of drilling fluids (mud). Since 1983, Packard has designed and manufactured its own version of the kelly valve, and the integration of the OMSCO line into Packard's is already under way.
A more targeted marketing approach to the design, production and marketing of high technology drill pipe and drill string components was the catalyst for change, according to Les Hutchison, OMSCO Vice President and General Manager.
"The kelly valve line has been one of our bread and butter lines for decades," Hutchison said. "While we wanted to divest this product line, we knew we had to have the right company to handle it, and that's definitely Packard."
Packard International, headquartered in Conroe, Tx., produces its own line of valves for oil field use, and company executives believe the addition of the reputable OMSCO valve will enhance Packard's customer offerings.
"Like OMSCO, we live and breathe quality, customer service, and superior products," said Tony Deeb, Packard International president. "We expect a seamless transfer of the kelly valve into Packard's production."
In addition to Packard's drill stem products, the company also is home to one of the best precision machining facilities in the area, according to Deeb. "We have the ability to precision machine parts up to 106" in diameter and 32,000 pounds. Our highly skilled technicians and machinists, in-house engineering and advanced computer assisted manufacturing can produce virtually any piece of equipment our customers might need," Deeb said.
Packard International exceeds all industry standards for production of top-quality drill string products. The company is authorized to monogram under the conditions of API Spec 7 and certified to API Q1 & ISO 9001-2000. The company, established in 1975, was twice recognized as one of Houston's Top 100 private companies making the greatest impact on Houston (1999 & 2001).
OMSCO, also headquartered in Houston, is a division of ShawCor, Ltd., a global energy services company based in Toronto, Canada. ShawCor provides technology-based products and services for pipeline exploration and production. The company has manufacturing and service facilities located in more than 15 countries serving the needs of petrochemical industries worldwide.
